Wyoming Governor Geringer established the Governor's Capitol Art Exhibition in 2000. This exhibition is the primary avenue for the state museum to acquire contemporary Wyoming art for its Capitol and permanent collections. Over the years I have received three purchase awards. That means my work is hanging in state offices somewhere in Wyoming. For years one of my pieces hung in the offices of the Wyoming Arts Council. but eventually they had to let someone else have a turn! This years exhibit showcases 62 works by 53 artists. Kate Hlavin, Curator for the Coors Western Art Exhibit, was the guest juror who had the herculean tasks of choosing from 383 entries! Hlavin commented, “with hundreds of amazing pieces, it was inspiring to see all of the incredible talent in Wyoming. As I went through each of the submissions, I looked for work that uniquely depicted Wyoming and the West.” I was surprised and privileged to receive the Juror's Choice Award from all of the quality pieces in this show. The Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition will be on exhibit from Feb. 9 to Aug. 8 in the Capitol Gallery. The Capitol is open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you can't make it to the show here is an online link to the show.
