Saguaro cactus, bougainvillea, grapefruit trees and art museums! Oh my! We aren't in Cheyenne anymore. In fact Dave and I arrived in Phoenix on Monday to relax and enjoy some of the sights and museums this area has to offer. Our first stop was the Heard Museum whose focus is American Indian and Southwestern art. We saw a fabulous exhibit of Maria Martinez's pottery and work by a contemporary artist, Brenda Mallory. She uses discarded objects to create her pieces and express her voice, ( I can relate).
We have been to the Desert Botanical Garden twice already. It's an amazing place with all kinds of plant life both familiar and other worldly! Plus the garden has a Chihuly sculpture and a show of Botero's work. Bonus! Tomorrow it's the Musical Instruments Museum and we hope to squeeze in the Phoenix Art Museum. So much to do before we head to Wickenburg for the main event, Cowgirl UP. The show opens this Friday and will go on till September. If your in the area be sure to catch it at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum
